AUSU Election Notice
February 5th, 2010 is the start of the General Call for Nomination for AUSU's biannual election. Self Nominations can be submitted to
election@ausu.org from February 5th, to February 15th, 2010.
To become a candidate, you must be an active member in good standing, have completed a minimum of 3 AU undergraduate credits,
not be currently employed by the University except in a student research position,
not employed by AUSU, and not currently in litigation with AUSU. This generally means that if you are currently enrolled in an AU course, and
have completed at least one other, you are eligible to submit a self-nomination together with your written consent to act as a Councillor if elected.
Council has determined that there are to be three campaign requirements for this current election, to provide the
membership with information to help them choose their candidates. Interested candidates must fulfill all three campaign
requirements to be included on the ballot.
These requirements are:
- The candidate must submit a bio that is a minimum of 20 words and a maximum of 100 by February 28, 2010. Your bio will be available to the
membership to read alongside your name.
- The candidate must submit an electronic 8.5 x11 inch campaign poster, to be placed online in PDF format (instructions on how to complete this
requirement will be sent to candidates, and you will have the option to use a template we provide). There are no restrictions on what this poster
contains other than those listed in AUSU's Election Conduct policy,
3.01 points 24 – 31. This must be submitted by February 28th, 2010. Posters cannot
be changed once submitted, and will be available for viewing in our candidates information section.
- The candidate must confirm their interest in running for a seat on AUSU Council. This may be done by email to the election email box, and
must occur between March 1st, 2010 and March 5th, 2010. AUSU will attempt to send out a reminder shortly before this, but takes no responsibility
if that reminder is not sent or does not arrive.
There may also be other opportunities for candidates to campaign, notably in our forums and chat room. However participation in these, while
strongly recommended, is entirely optional. The Campaign period begins after all candidates are confirmed as eligible to run.
If you wish to know more about what being on council entails, read our Council Expectations (PDF, opens in new window) information sheet before you decide.
If you would like to run for council, or would like more information, email election@ausu.org.
