AUSU AND THE VOICE PRIVACY POLICY

INTRODUCTION

AUSU and The Voice collect personally identifying information about you only when you specifically and knowingly provide it to us. AUSU and The Voice are dedicated to providing you with a valuable and relevant information and services to help you make the most of your time at Athabasca University. The more we know about you, the better we can serve your needs.

BASIC STATEMENT

Personally identifying information that you provide to AUSU or The Voice will not be made available to third parties without your explicit permission.

AUSU and The Voice may compile aggregate information about our users (statistics) for the purpose of obtaining advertizing, or tracking website use. No personally identifying information will be used for these purposes.

Any information you provide to the owners of websites linked to those in AUSU and The Voice webspace, will be subject to the privacy policy of the site owner. For example, if you visit the website of a company via a link from an AUSU webpage or a Voice article, then any information you give that company will be subject to their privacy policy, not ours. We take no responsibility for the actions of sites linked to by AUSU or The Voice.

COOKIES

Cookies are small packets of information that a website stores on an individual's computer for use on subsequent visits to the site. Cookies streamline website performance by providing sites with information about your preferences on a particular site, like what items you have in a "shopping cart" for an online store. The use of cookies is an industry standard, and a large number of reputable websites use them to provide a better online experience for their customers.

AUSU and The Voice may use cookies to store certain user information such as site viewing preferences [font size, colours, etc], and login information, if these services are made available on our site. We also reserve the right to use cookies to track how users access and navigate our site, for the purpose of collecting website use statistics and improving website performance.
Users of the AUSU and The Voice websites will always have the option of disabling cookies via their browser preferences.

As stated above, AUSU and The Voice assume no responsibility for the actions of any website that you visit as the result of clicking on a link on an AUSU or The Voice webpage.

Do not give personal information to any website, unless you know how it will be used and who will be in possession of that information.

E-MAIL TO US

When you send e-mail to AUSU or The Voice, your e-mail address will only be used to respond to your query. We will not add it to a list of e-mail addresses for mass mailings, nor will we sell it to any other firm for any reason. You will not be placed on any e-mail list unless you specifically request it.

Please note that when you registered with Athabasca University, you were given the option of suplying your email address and being added to the student directory. If you supplied this information, AUSU may use it to contact you with information we deem to be relevant to AU students. Please contact ausu@ausu.org if you receive any email from AUSU or The Voice that you do not believe you should be getting.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

From time to time, AUSU and The Voice may change their websites, and accordingly, changes may be made to the privacy policy. An updated version of the policy will be added to the site whenever changes to the policy are made. Customers will not be directly notified of such changes.
