Inside this issue:

For every undergraduate course you take at AU, $8 of your fees go to us, the Athabasca University Students' Union.

What do you get for your money?  Representation & Assistance.  We sit on AU boards & committees making the students' voices and concerns heard on issues such as AU's recently proposed 7.3% tuition increase and the proposed course extension policy that would have required students to give a month's notice in order to extend a course.

Due to our efforts, AU has agreed to withdraw the proposed course extension policy and we continue to lobby against tuition fee increases.  These are just a few of the pressing issues we have addressed in recent months.

This year AUSU councillors have attended numerous nationwide conferences and education forums and have made significant progress in equating the voice of the distance learning student to that of a regular brick & mortar university student.

As well we are a member of CAUS, the Council of Alberta University Students.  This is a coalition of student governments from Alberta's four universities working together to focus on provincial education issues.  We'd love to have representatives from each Canadian province expressing their concerns about provincial education issues.  If you would be interested in keeping AUSU informed of issues in your province please contact AUSU at ausu@ausu.org.
