The Bachelor of Professional Arts (BPA) Program has a new major in Governance, Law and Management (GLM) coordinated by Dr. Malinda Smith in the Centre for Global and Social Analyses. The BPA programs are collaborative degrees whereby students who hold approved diplomas from accredited colleges are eligible for block credit transfers. Students holding diplomas in public administration, policy studies, legal studies, police and security studies or nonprofit sector studies are encouraged to apply.
The BPA-GLM is an interdisciplinary degree for professionals and managers in the public and voluntary and nonprofit sectors, as well as private sector professionals who work in partnerships with the public and nonprofit sectors. There are four focus areas that students may choose from: Public Sector Management and Policy Studies; Police and Security Management; Law and Governance, and Non-Profit and Voluntary Sector Management.
The BPA GLM prepares undergraduate students for rewarding professional careers, as well as provides the opportunity for upgrading by mid-career professionals already employed in government or in nonprofit organizations. It provides the knowledge and skills necessary for versatile leadership and the effective management of public organizations, legal departments, criminal justice agencies, nongovernmental organizations or advocacy organizations.
Students might also be interested in taking courses in the area as "Unclassified" (or visiting) students. Some new courses include Global Governance and Law; Innovative Public Management; Governance and Leadership; and Public Policy in a Global Era.
