Laurence Decore Award for Student Leadership
The Decore award is a $500 bursary that recognizes students who have demonstrated outstanding dedication and leadership
to fellow students and to their community. The AU winner must be an Alberta resident (because this award is funded by the Alberta government)
currently enrolled in three or more AU courses. The winner will be selected on the basis of involvement in either student government or student
societies, clubs or organizations. In addition, candidates may be involved in student organizations at the provincial or national level or in
non-profit community organizations.
You may self-nominate or nominate another student who you feel is deserving of recognition. Please fill out the
application form (pdf file) and return it to ausu@ausu.org. You can scan the
completed form, or fax it to 1-780-497-3413. Contact our office if neither of these options works for you or if you need us to mail you a
hard copy. The deadline for submission of forms is March 1.
AUSU Scholarships, Awards & Bursaries Program
The Athabasca University Students’ Union
wishes to recognize post-secondary students demonstrating
outstanding academic and leadership achievements. Awards and
scholarships will be granted to qualifying members who submit completed applications and all required forms
by the appropriate award deadline.
You are an AUSU member if you are currently enrolled in any AU undergraduate course. Your membership ends
on the end date of your course, including extensions, or when your final grade is posted, whichever is sooner.
AU graduate student do not pay AUSU fees and are not AUSU members.

AUSU Bursaries
AUSU Bursaries are designed to aid members in financial need and/or with exceptional life circumstances. Members must demonstrate
financial need, have completed a minimum of 12 AU credits and maintain a GPA of 2.00 (C grade) over the most recent 12 AU Credits. Additional
circumstances such as disabilities, single parent/caregiver status, etc., will be taken into consideration. Five awards for $1,000 each are awarded twice
per year for a total of 10 awards per annum. Application is required and the deadlines are November 1st and May 1st. No member may
win this award more than once per 12 month period.

AUSU Computer Bursary
This bursary is available to members who demonstrate financial need and provides them with a free computer for their course work.
Members must have completed a minimum of 12 AU credits and have a GPA of 2.00 (C grade) over the most recent 12 AU credits. Eight Computer
Bursaries will be awarded each fiscal year. The computer will be purchased by AUSU and shipped directly to the member. Each computer will not exceed $800 dollars in value, and AUSU assumes no liability for usage of the computer or computer maintenance once the equipment is received
by the member. Application is required and accepted at any time of year. No member may win this bursary more than once.

AUSU Travel Bursary
The Travel Bursary is designed to aid members who must travel to attend conferences, AU convocation, labs or practicums. Members
must demonstrate financial need, have completed a minimum of 12 AU credits and have a GPA of at least 2.00 (C grade) over the most recent
12 AU credits. Members must include one of the following information with their application: 1) conference description and
registration information, 2) lab/practicum confirmation, or 3) confirmation of graduation. A maximum of $1000 will be provided per successful
applicant for travel and accommodation. Applications are accepted anytime of the year, however, they must be submitted a minimum of
30 days before the date of travel.
A maximum of $2,000 dollars is available for this bursary per fiscal year. Should all the funds in the bursary be used prior to the end of
the fiscal year, AUSU will place an announcement on the website and remove all application forms until the beginning of the next fiscal year.

AUSU Emergency Bursary
The Emergency Bursary is provided to help members pay for AU fees such as course extensions and exam fees so they do not
fail a course due to extenuating financial circumstances. Members must demonstrate financial need, have completed a minimum of 12
AU credits and have a GPA of at least 2.00 (C grade) over the most recent 12 AU credits. Members may apply for this bursary more
than once per fiscal year but may not receive more than $500 dollars per year in total. Members will not be paid the bursary directly
but AUSU will pay the fees to AU on behalf of the member. A maximum of $6,000 dollars is available for this bursary per fiscal year. Applications
are accepted anytime of the year. Please allow up to 1 week for processing of this bursary and remember that course extensions must be
purchased 1 month before your course end date and AUSU cannot alter this deadline. Please inquire with the university first if you are seeking
a late extension.

AUSU Student Service Awards
Student Service Awards are designed to recognize members who have made outstanding contributions to their community. This includes
members who volunteer their time to AUSU, AU or to any other community or organization. Members may self-nominate as long as an
appropriate volunteer reference is provided. Applicants must have completed a minimum of 12 AU credits and have a minimum GPA of 2.00 (C grade)
over the last 12 AU credits. Two $500 awards are available per year. Applications to nominate
a member for this award can be obtained from the AUSU office. The two deadlines for applications are November 1st and May 1st.

AUSU Returning Student Awards
AUSU Returning Student Awards are intended to recognize the courage of students who return to university after
two or more years away from any type of formal education. Preference is given to students who were away from formal education
for longer periods of time, as well as to AU program students, and those who have overcome or are in the process of overcoming
significant hardship in the pursuit of their education. These hardships should preferably be other than financial as AUSU has
bursaries devoted to addressing those needs. Applicants must have completed a minimum of 12 AU credits and have a minimum GPA
of 2.00 (C grade) over the last 12 AU credits. One award is available every November and May for a total of two awards per fiscal
year. The two deadlines for applications are November 1st and May 1st.
Each award consists of one three-credit AU undergraduate course. Members will not be paid the
award directly but AUSU will pay the fees for a new course registration on behalf of the member at the rate applicable in the
student's place of residence.
