This Month's Tutor
Audrey O’Brien
French Language and Literature

Audrey O’Brien has been working as a tutor of French language and literature
courses at Athabasca university since 1997 and on August 1st will begin a full time position as
Academic Coordinator. She is very happy to have the opportunity to continue working at Athabasca
with students of French, who are all wonderful people, and to work on the development of new
courses in the French area. At the moment she is beginning research in the area of children’s
literature in French and hopes this might lead to a new course. Other research interests include
French and French Canadian literature of the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, environmental
discourse in literature and the application of internet resources to language learning.
Audrey moved to Edmonton in 1977 and still lives there with her husband and daughter. She
did graduate studies at the University of Alberta, where she obtained an MA and PhD. Before emigrating
to Canada she worked as a teacher in England and France. She is an ardent francophile who appreciates
all things French - literature, art, architecture, film, food and, of course, wine. She enjoys her
work with Athabasca very much, particularly having individual contact with students.
