This Month's Tutor

Judi Malone

Psychology

Hmmm, what to say . . . I am very open but I do not usually write about myself. I do ask new students about themselves so I can see them as persons first, students second. Usually they do not ask for the same in return so I guess this is my chance.

I am a mother of two girls. Moriah is a recent high school graduate and a student in AU’s BGS program and Kira is a three year old joy whose goal in life is fun (and she is). My partner Barry is an adult educator, student, and creative inspiration. We live with many trees, birds, deer and wonders of nature in my personal sanctuary here in rural Alberta (near St. Paul) and are a very active outdoors family.

I am addicted to school – the correct phrase is committed lifelong learner. Until I can return full-time to do a doctoral program, I keep myself busy honing professional and academic skills and volunteering for boards & committees. I only work 3 days a week so that I have enough time to be balanced.

I am a charted psychologist and have a thriving private practice where I work mainly with women and youth. I am an existential feminist practitioner with a focus on rural and Aboriginal issues and on mentoring future Aboriginal psychologists. I love teaching in the classroom at Blue Quills First Nations College, and tutoring from home (women’s studies, psychology, & counselling).

In grad school I took two courses from AU and loved them! I have always been committed to AU and it is great to be on the team here. I learn so much from students and enjoy teaching. I am at a good place in my life and working hard to maintain the balance to keep it there. Thank you for asking me to share this, and I thank every student who shares a piece of their lives with me.

Judi
