This Month's Tutor

Hartley Waldman

Computer Studies

I have lived in Calgary, for more than 20 years. I consider myself a "true" Albertan, having been raised in Saskatchewan and moving to Calgary from Ontario, which collectively puts me in pretty much the same category as half the province. I am married with 3 children--two girls (22 and 20) and a boy (16).

In my spare time I enjoy golfing (I'm hooked, but find it hard to give up 6 hour stints to the game), running (as much as anyone who is not a masochist enjoys running), live theatre and spending time with my family. My wife and I also enjoy travelling. Last year at the conclusion of a sabbatical we took a family trip to Morocco (me on lead camel of pic) and Spain, which proved to be an unforgettable experience for both of us and the kids.

By day I am employed as a high school computer technology and business education teacher. I have been a tutor with Athabasca University for the past 8 years, most recently with the Computer Studies department. I enjoy the contact with the adult learners and find it a wonderful way for me to be associated with an independant, motivated group of students along with helping to keep my knowledge in the field current. I have also had the opportunity to see AU from the other side of the fence, as on my recent sabbatical I added to my degree collection by completing an Advanced Graduate Diploma in Distance Education (Technology).
