Kim Vaughan
Psychology

Kim Vaughan is a tutor in Psychology, currently teaching three courses: Child Development (Psychology 228), Developmental Psychology
(Psychology 323), and Psychology and the Mass Media (Psychology 315). Kim has been with Athabasca since 2000. Kim is also a sessional
instructor at the University of Calgary, teaching Developmental Psychology, Adolescence, and Psychology of Gender.
Kim earned her doctorate at University of Calgary in 2000. Her dissertation was a longitudinal study that assessed a community sample of
374 10-13 year old females on media variables, family variables, psychological variables, maturational variables, and eating disorder symptomatology.
Kim enjoys the variety of interests and backgrounds that her Athabasca students bring to her tutoring experience. She has enjoyed working
with students in countries as diverse as Indonesia, Japan and the Ukraine.
Research interests include the development of dieting and eating disorders, male and female body image, prevention of obesity in children
and adolescents, media influences on attitudes and behaviours, and health policy.
Kim is married to James Vaughan and they have a dog named Sophie. Kim enjoys traveling, camping, and hiking.
