Exec Blog: October 2015

Wow! We had an amazing October here at AUSU! Where do I begin? Oh, yes, the federal election happened and Canada voted for #change! And so did you. AUSU and AUGSA’s joint Get out the Vote campaign was a resounding success thanks to all of you who pledged to vote. An amazing 828 of you! Thank you all so much for supporting the campaign, talking about it, sharing it, and tweeting it. President Shawna Wasylyshyn did a terrific job with this campaign and worked tirelessly with CASA to make sure AUSU members were represented.

The Student Lifeline is proving to be an essential tool for many AUSU members.Statistics are showing that many of you are indeed taking advantage of this amazing service and getting tremendous benefits from it. Whether you’re logging in from our mobile app or online, you’re seeing that the Student Lifeline is there for you when you need it. October’s monthly features included managing stress, how writing helps reduce stress, and helping your child adjust to family changes. Log into www.lifeworks.com with the username “AUSU” and the password “wellness” to see what it has to offer and what their monthly feature will be for November. We’re pleased to report that Athabasca University has jumped on board with promoting the Student Lifeline and you’ll soon be seeing it on the main page of their website, on the Learning Support Services – Counselling Services page, and when you log into myAU!

Speaking of the app, you’re all loving it! We’ve had some great responses to its look, its functionality, and its ability to connect students taking similar classes. It’s a great “youtility” to keep track of your assignments, create events or schedule appointments in the calendar, or simply reach out to other members. Thanks for registering as users and let us know how you like to use it best! If you haven’t downloaded the app yet, you can find it at athabasca.campusapp.com.

AUSU’s Awards deadline is fast approaching, November 1st! If you haven’t already, make sure you get your application in for the many awards, scholarships, and bursaries that AUSU has to offer. Visit www.ausu.org/services/scholarships-awards for all the details.

The Course Evaluations service is live on our website now and you have started to enter in your reviews. This is a great place to go to see what your peers have to say about a course you’re thinking of taking or that you’re taking right now. The Voice Magazine continues to produce some amazing content. From interviews to news you can use, The Voice is a great way to sit, have a coffee or tea, and reflect on the goings on of our AU community. Check out their latest edition at www.voicemagazine.org.

Our social media world is larger than you might think! Not only do we have our Facebook page and Twitter account but we’re also on LinkedIn! If you haven’t followed us on these platforms yet, please check us out for AUSU updates, news, and events.

We have some exciting things up our sleeves here at AUSU and I can’t wait to tell you all about it. But you’ll have to be patient, because just like treasure hunting, good things come to those who wait…

Until next time, and remember…
