Exec Blog: January 2016

Are you ready? Ready to win? We’ve got contests galore coming your way and we want to give away some great prizes!

But, I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s talk about what you’ve been up to these past few months shall we? First and foremost, you’ve been all over our mobile app and reviews have been great! AUSU members have been very active and engaged with each other – using the app has been a great resource to connect students from all over. Whether you’re looking for peer-to-peer help on a course you’re taking or looking for other students taking the same course, you’ve been keeping the app active. We’re always adding more info into the Calendar and under the Events tab so keep your eyes on those in case anything pertains to you or if any events come your way!

Because we just love it when you’re on the app, we want to help you win big while you’re there! We’ve got some great contests coming down the pipe over the next little while that can earn you some cool prizes. Stay tuned to our Facebook page and our Twitter feed, or check out our website right here to find out how to win! We’re also having contests on Twitter and we’ve already given away $25 to one lucky winner! Will you be next?

If you haven’t completed the course evaluations on our site yet, please do so. It’s a great opportunity to share your thoughts and feedback with other students on courses you’ve taken, and vice-versa! We have weekly polls on our website too and we’d love to see how members respond. If there’s a question that you would like to see asked, send us an email and we’ll get the poll up there for you!

The Student Lifeline continues to be a great service for all of our members. This February, the monthly feature is about financial resilience. It has tools, quizzes, and resources to help you budget, save for a strong future, and weather difficult financial times. Their new podcast for February is, “Building Your Financial Resilience”.

AUSU elections are just around the corner. Will you be running for council? This could be a great opportunity for you to learn about student governance, what’s going on at your university now and into the future, and meet fellow AU students. Keep your eyes open for the call for nominations!

Finally, remember the last executive blog I wrote? Remember that I left you a little hint about some exciting things that we have up our sleeves and something about treasure hunting? Well, it’s time I broke the news. AUSU is excited to delve into the world of geocaching! That’s right! If you’re a geocacher, you know what we’re talkin’ about and how thrilling it is! Here’s what it’s all about.

GEOCACHING: AUSU’s GLOBAL TREASURE HUNT!

Play along and search for AUSU “Treasure” with fellow AUSU members. Hide your very own geocaches filled with AUSU swag or search for fellow members’ caches! Get geo-connected!

If you love geocaching as much as we do, you’ll love the opportunity to get a cool cache pre-stuffed with valuable AUSU treasures, totally free, for you to hide!  Getting started is simple!

1.    Send us an email at admin@ausu.org with your geocache username and your AU student ID number. If you don’t have a geocache account, visit https://www.geocaching.com/.

2.    We’ll send YOU a completely cache-ready box filled with great stuff!

See? It’s that simple!  Then comes the seriously fun part!  When you get your cache box and you’ve gone ahead and cached it, send us the coordinates, we’ll promote it for you, and then people will start looking for it!

Of course, there are some rules and guidelines that you have to be aware of, especially if you’ve never geocached before. The following website provides a ton of information on the legalities that you need to know: Geocaching guidelines

Here’s to seeing you win big with all-new AUSU contests and giveaways!
