AUSU Executives Return from CASA Conference
Our AUSU President Shawna Wasylyshyn and VP External Brandon Simmons recently returned from Ottawa from a Canadian Alliance of Students’ Associations (CASA) Foundations Conference.
The Foundations Conference gathers newly-elected student leaders from across Canada to receive training on advocacy and discuss issues related to post-secondary education. The conference enabled CASA members to identify and discuss potential advocacy focuses for the year, such as student wellness, experiential learning, as well as social and economic barriers to post-secondary education. There were also featured guest speakers from the Assembly of First Nations, Canada Student Loans Program, and Say no More. These were great opportunities to discuss issues that affect students across Canada!
We are pleased to announce that during the conference, our executives were elected to the following seats on the CASA board and committees:
President Shawna Wasylyshyn | CASA Federal Policy Committee |
VP External Brandon Simmons | CASA Treasurer for the Board of Directors |
VP Finance Kim Newsome | CASA Trades and Technology Committee |
This will allow AUSU to play a significant role in CASA during the year, and ensure that the needs of our members are taken into consideration. CASA has had a lot of influence on the government, as can be seen in the most recent election and budget. We look forward to the wonderful work this year holds!
