There is no place for Islamophobic hate crimes in Canada

Athabasca University Students’ Union (AUSU) is shocked and saddened by the hate crime committed against five members of the same Muslim family in London, Ontario, resulting in the death of four. Our hearts go out to the surviving child in recovery, their loved ones, and to everyone in the Muslim community for this horrific loss.

We stand with the Muslim and London community in your time of grief and condemn this hateful act of violence. Although our country strives to celebrate diversity, these murders remind us that racism and Islamophobia still exist.

We know that members of the AUSU community are grieving. We grieve with you and offer our support.

Athabasca University students can access counselling services 24/7 by calling 1-800-663-1142 (English), 1-800-398-9505 (French), 1-877-301-4776 (Outside Canada), or 1-888-384-1152 (Hearing Impaired). Muslim Canadians may also access grief counselling through Islamic Social Services by calling 1-204-944-1560 or emailing info@issacanada.com.

AUSU is committed to ending racism and violence against Muslims in Canada and supporting our Muslim membership. To read about the family or make a donation, a GoFundMe account has been set up by a family representative to raise money as Sadaqa-Jariya – a gift of ongoing charity to honour the victims of this heinous crime.
