AUSU President Accepts New Position at Athabasca University!

March 4, 2022, was President Stacey Hutchings’s last day on AUSU Student’s Council and the Executive Committee after submitting her resignation in late February to accept a position at Athabasca University within the Student Financial Aid Office. She served AUSU for two years as a member of the Executive Committee, with her first year as the Vice President External and Student Affairs and the current year as President.

During her term on Council, Stacey was instrumental in leading the organization through the rapidly changing pandemic. This included advocating for the implementation of supports such as Compassionate Grading options for AU undergraduates. In fact, her commitment to advocating for post-secondary students saw her elected to the Canadian Alliance of Students’ Associations (CASA) for the 2021-2022 executive term. Amongst her many accomplishments while on the Executive Committee, one she was most passionate about was spearheading the Virtual Food Assistance Program, a monthly service now operating for the past year that helps students facing food insecurity.

“Working with Stacey on our executive team for the past two years has been an absolute pleasure,” said Executive Director Jodi Campbell. “She has proven herself to be one of the most capable Presidents I have had the opportunity to work with. Always keeping AU students at the forefront of her decision-making and being a fierce advocate for AU students is what stands out to me about her time at AUSU. She definitely left AUSU better than the way she found it, and we wish her all the best as she moves on to her next opportunity with AU.”

AUSU would like to thank Stacey for all her hard work and dedication and wish her the best ahead! Good luck Stacey – AU has found a great student ambassador for their Financial Aid Office. As per AUSU policy, former Vice-President External Karen Fletcher has moved into the role of President for the remainder of the current executive committee term that ends on April 21, 2022.
