Supports for 2SLGBTQIA+ Students
As some of you may know, AUSU has been hard at work for the past two years developing supports for 2SLGBTQIA+ students with our AUSU Pride Community Centre.
AUSU Pride Events
Some of our initiatives include celebrating Pride Month in June and our annual AUSU Pride Week in October. During these events, we have brought you fantastic guests from AU, as well as the 2SLGBTQIA+ community across Canada. We have also hosted Pride Student Lounges, Pride Trivia Nights, drag nights, movie nights, and more!
AUSU Supports
Currently, we run an AUSU 2SLGBTQIA+ Discord Server, which offers AU students a sense of community and support. (Friends and allies are also welcome.)
AUSU has also created a brand new 2SLGBTQIA+ Award available to all 2SLGBTQIA+ students. (Our next Awards and Bursaries cycle goes LIVE on April 15th, 2023!)
AUSU Advocacy
We also advocate for the needs of 2SLGBTQIA+ students internally within AUSU, and Athabasca University, as well as provincially and federally. If you would like to check out AUSU’s official “asks and priorities” in more detail, two (2) policies are currently available, including our Council Governance and our Position Policy on Equitable Access and Inclusion for 2SLGBTQIA+ Students.
Some of our recent activities have been advocating directly to the Government of Alberta with our fellow student leaders at the Council of Alberta University Students (CAUS), as well as advocating for and working on affirming name changes within AU. (More information should be available to students shortly.)
AUSU Committees and Volunteer Opportunities
If you’d like to get more involved, we encourage you to apply for a seat on AUSU’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee this coming April, or reach out to volunteer at an upcoming event.
