AUSU Stands in Solidarity with the 2SLGBTQIA+ Community

In light of last week’s anti-2SLGBTQIA+ protests across Canada, AUSU would like to take a moment to stand in solidarity with the entire community and their families.

As an organization, we reaffirm our support for everyone affected by this wave of transphobic and homophobic hate, and believe that all individuals in the community deserve to live their lives in safety and dignity.

On a personal note, as a queer student myself, I am heartbroken with you all. However, I know that we will move past this, as we have always done in the past. We have always existed, and we will make it through this together, along with the support of friends and allies.

If anyone needs immediate support, please connect with Talk Suicide Canada at 1-833-456-4566 or Trans LifeLine at 1-877-330-6366.

In addition, a variety of supports can be found on AUSU’s Pride Community page, including resources, awards, bursaries, community social media, events, and more.

Please connect with myself, Natalia Iwanek (she/they), AUSU’s VP Community and Wellness, at vpcw@ausu.org if you would like to learn more about our work here at AUSU, learn how you can get involved, or learn more about our supports and resources.

In solidarity with you all,

  • Natalia
