Hello Fellow AU Students and AUSU Members!
My name is Joshua Ryan, and I’m working part-time towards completing my Bachelor of Commerce, returning to my roots after a brief stint working on a Bachelor of Arts.
When I’m not studying, I work full-time as a federal public servant. I manage a large security program within the federal government and, while the role is internally facing in that I don’t deal with members of the public, I deal with stakeholders at all levels of my organization trying to move initiatives to completion. That’s something that will certainly apply well with AUSU.
Though originally from Northern Ontario, I currently live in beautiful Ottawa, Ontario. I share my free time in Ottawa with my wonderful, four-year old rescued Border Collie, Lewis. Lewis was rescued when he was 9 months old by the Nova Scotia SPCA and it’s been an adventure helping him learn how to “Dog” properly.
I’ve also served since 2012 in the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves. From 2012 to 2015, I was a Primary Reservist with 33 Signal Regiment here in Ottawa. In 2015, I commissioned as an officer and transferred to work with the Cadet Organization and Training Service (COATS) Reserve component where I work with youth aged 12 – 18 as they develop life skills. My role is as a training officer responsible for adult staff development and training program deliver as well as being the Public Affairs Representative for the Ottawa St-Lawrence Area Office since September 2017.
I look forward to helping advocate on behalf of our diverse student population and working with my fellow councilors and the AUSU staff this council term to continue the great work done by our predecessors!
