My name is Stacey and I am beyond thrilled to have this opportunity to serve as your VPEX. A little about me, I have two children who are 8 and 11 and a fantastic partner.

After my parents retired from the military, my family settled on Vancouver Island. But before that I lived all over Canada, including Ottawa, Edmonton and even Yellowknife.  I graduated high school and attended Vancouver Island University where I received a certificate in the Applied Business Technology Program with a focus on administration. My partner and I then relocated to northern BC, where we lived for close to 10 years. I then became a Land Administrator/Regulatory Consultant. With this position, I was doing administrative project management on behalf of various oil and gas companies for their operations within BC.

I soon realized that I was looking for a career where I was helping people, but I was unsure of what I wanted to do. I made the decision to switch careers and became a court clerk. As this was a remote court location, I had the opportunity to connect with provincial court judges from all over the province. Their infectious desire to help others is what ignited my passion for social justice, advocacy, and law.

We relocated to Calgary so I could attend a traditional university to work on my undergrad. After 3 years at a brick-and-mortar university, I tried Athabasca University’s spring courses. I loved open learning and decided to stay. Open learning has allowed me to avoid a 3-hour commute to campus each day so I can pursue my other passions and interests.

I knew right away I wanted to get involved in the AUSU, so I jumped at the chance of joining the Student Advisory Committee last fall. Because of this, I was able to attend the Faculty of Humanity and Social Science’s learning symposium where I was able to meet some of my tutors face-to-face. I am a volunteer with the Red Cross as part of their Emergency Response Team. I have been able to facilitate three days a week as an educational facilitator. And I am now on the AUSU council and ready to serve you!

I am in a Bachelor of Professional Arts in Governance, Law and Management. I am passionate about advocacy, social justice, law and policy. When I am not studying or volunteering, I like to stay active. I try to go to CrossFit at least 4 times a week. I love the outdoors, so I like hiking, fishing, camping and cross-country skiing. One of the main reasons I love the Calgary area is how close we are to the mountains.

Please reach out, lets connect, find me on my socials, send me an email, anything! I am here and ready to serve you and the best way I can do that is to hear from you. Good luck with your studies and stay healthy.
