About the Speaker

Dr. Frits Pannekoek is a Professor of History at Athabasca University. He was Director of Historic Sites and Archives for Alberta for 25 years, the University librarian at the University of Calgary for 10 years, and President of Athabasca University from 2005 to 2014. He has written widely on Alberta history and heritage preservation. He was identified by the Calgary Stampede as one of the hundred most influential Albertans of the last hundred years. He was made a member of the Alberta Order of Excellence in 2015. Most recently, he was named “Loads Gun” by the Elders at Red Crow College, Standoff.
