Rainbow Railroad

Monday, June 12, 2023 @ 5:00 pm MDT 6:00 pm MDT

Be inspired by the mission and work of the Rainbow Railroad, with Brittany Skerritt (she/they) presenting!

About Rainbow Railroad

Rainbow Railroad is a global not-for-profit organization that helps 2SLGBTQIA+ people facing persecution based on their sexual orientation, gender identity and sex characteristics. In a time when there are more displaced people than ever before, 2SLGBTQIA+ people are uniquely vulnerable due to systemic, state-enabled homophobia and transphobia. These factors either displace them in their own country or prevent them from escaping harm.

As a result of Rainbow Railroad, more 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals will be able to access lives free from persecution. Since its founding in 2006, the organization has helped more than 7,500 individuals find safety through emergency relocation and other forms of assistance. Their story has received international media attention, including a feature on CBS 60 Minutes.

About the Speaker

Brittany Skerritt manages Rainbow Railroad’s community giving portfolios, including peer-to-peer fundraising, events, and third-party fundraisers.

Brittany is a fundraising professional based in the unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinabe peoples, also known as Ottawa, with over 4 years of experience with non-profits in the Women’s and LGBTQ+ rights sector. She has previously held positions at Oxfam Canada, Equality Fund and most recently Women’s Shelters Canada. Brittany is determined to dedicate her career to making a positive impact on the environment around her by bringing communities together to advocate for change.

Outside of work, you can catch Brittany tending to her ever-growing plant collection, spending far too much time with her cat, cooking or learning something new.
